not recognized hard drive

Specs: Windows XP
I have 2 hard drives that are not recognized when I boot to install windows I have tried fdisk and it says that the hard drive needs to be formatted and partitioned how do I do this from the a:

U can format and partition the drive(s) during installation process.
If u are installing win xp in sata drive u are going to need driver for sata.

Since you are apparently installing XP, probably onto SATA drives, see if your motherboard's BIOS offers the option to have the SATA drive emulate PATA (IDE) drives during the installation. Then after the installation you can install the drivers and switch it back. If not, then you will need to feed the drivers in during installation when you get the option via a floppy disk.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
