Not enough Microphone gain.

September 3, 2011 at 18:41:33
Specs: Windows XP
Windows 7 has been downgraded to XP. Sound card does not have adequate microphone gain for use with Skype. Microphone output is OK and all Windows adjustments are set for maximum gain. Is there a problem using the sound card on XP. When performing Skype test, some sound is heard when speaking loudly and close to the mic, so I believe connections are OK. Works OK on another computer.

It could be the sound card or chip on XP, you didn't give any specs. If the mic works in Win 7, could be the software used with xp isn't up to par. Why did you downgrade anyhow. Win 7 is a much nicer system.

Hi Grasshopper

I downgraded because there was no device drivers for some of my periferals. Maybe there is now. Also, I have years worth of accounts on XP based Quicken, and the version which I purchased for Windows 7 did not have compatible files so I would have had to throw away all the data and start again.

I don't know if the mic works on Win7 as I don't have it to try, but it works OK on my other computer with XP
