The obvious solution would be to get rid of Norton 360. With all the decent freebie AV software out there these days, I don't understand whay anyone would pay for Norton, McAfee, or any of the other retail AV bloatware. Try AVAST, AVG, or Microsoft Security Essentials.

I appreciate the answer but for the time being am happy with all the other bits Norton 360 does- I just can't believe they don't sort these issues out - has any one else had the problem and found a way round it please?

Riider is correct. The free av's perform the same tasks and better than Norton. If you feel that you have to buy something for it to be effective there are versions of Avast and AVG that can be purchased that work as well as the free versions, but are still better than Norton or McAfee. If you decide to go with a free anti-virus (or anything but Norton) make sure you remove snortin Norton first or your problems will be compounded. Or you could use Linux and not deal with an anti-virus what so ever.
