Hello, I am planning to build a "small" server for home use. I am planning to use these Core components:
MainBoard: Tyan S5512WGM2NR
Processor: Intel® Xeon® Prozessor E3-1230 (3200 MHz)
RAM: GeIL DIMM 32 GB DDR3-1333 (Quad-Kit)However the Mainboard description shows ECC-Support. The RAM does not.
Do I need ECC RAM or will the RAM above work? (ECC RAM is much more expensive)Thanks!
Thomas
I believe that board supports only ECC memory. Server components do tend to be more expensive, but then they are designed for use in mission-critical business setups. For home use I'd go for something less ambitious (or grit your teeth and pay for quality components).
Thanks! Can you recommend something with similar specs?
I did choose this board because the SAS and SATA ports. I need to plug in at least 8 Hard Disks... (4 in a Raid 0+1 for the System and 4 for Data Storage...)Regards
Thomas
What you have is way more than a small home would need. A much less expensive core i3 would do or a similar AMD board. Text, talk, drive...CRASH.
Hang up and drive @#$%^^
