no wireless detected,broadcom 802.11g adapter

Broadcom / 802.11g network adapter
August 14, 2010 at 22:42:10
Specs: Windows XP,SP3
my network adapter cannot detect any wireless networks. it only detects a computer-to-computer network, which i think might be some hoax, because it is the same at my university and my home, which are 5 km apart.
it was working well, suddenly one fine morning I noticed that no wireless is detected except the hoax-network. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but could never re-install as bcmwl5.sys file was always lost from the location. so i restored my pc to an earlier time. please suggest me something..Thanks in advance.
