No signal in gateway monitor

December 28, 2010 at 04:05:33
Specs: Windows Vista
I have a gateway computer model GM5626 with 3 gb ram. The problem arises when I try to start up the computer. The screen shows a "no signal" sign. I have an Acer P215H screen. Most of the time when I start up the computer, I just get the "no signal" sign but sometimes, the screen starts working again. Once I shut it down, and come back an hour later to start up the comptuer again, the no signal sign appears again.

I would suspect a weak powersupply. The Spec says you have one of three different PSUs and all of them are only 300W units. The PSU is under fairly heavy load at startup from cold. It cannot be an overheating issue since it happens on cold start.
Replace the PSU with something of higher rating in a quality name-brand unit.

i replaced my power supply with a 380 watt power supply and i still get the no signal sign. Could it be that i need an even more powerful psu?

If you have installed a known good powersupply then the problem might be with the graphics. Are you using onboard graphics or a plug-in card ?

Next suggestion is to re-seat all the cards, cables & RAM. With power disconnected, remove & replace all connections on the motherboard. If there is a loose or corroded connection somewhere that might rectify it.
