No Power. system will not boot

June 18, 2013 at 14:05:31
Specs: Windows XP
Recently there was a bad storm in our area and now my computer shows no life. No lights, no nothing. I had the power supply tested and it's good. I have replaced the motherboard and still nothing. Does this mean the CPU is bad or could it be something else? Really perplexed

Try removing all of the RAM sticks and booting the system. If you get beeps from the computer, then the processor is good and the RAM may be bad.

Have you tried it plugged into a different circuit in the house/building. The breaker may have been tripped or fried.
If you are using a surge protector (or UPS), a lightning strike may have blown through the protection and either tripped its breaker or burnt out the last-chance non-replaceable fuse. Briefly, try directly in an outlet that you know works.
Try bypassing the case' power button and briefly short the 2 pins together with a metal screwdriver to see if it powers up.
Report results and anything else you see or hear that might help.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Are you sure about the power supply? How was it tested?

If it's not the AC power source (and you put everything together right) then the power supply is the most likely culprit.

Try removing the modem and the ethernet PCI card....those 2 seem to get hit first...see if it boots up.
