no cpu fan is detected on boot up

Specs: Windows xp
once the computer boots up on my dell demension 2350 a message pops up and says no cpu fan detected and the system shuts down. The fan on the back on the tower is spinning. Is there another fan? Do I have to reset something? Help tks

There is a fan on top of the CPU, which is more than likely what the BIOS Message is refering to..

The fan on the back of the case is the PSU fan. Some computers even have another fan bellow the CPU fan. Neither of them are CPU fans.

The CPU fan is inside the case on top of the CPU heat sink. You need to remove the side of the case to see it. If this fan fails the CPU will overheat very quickly and probably fry itself. The computer is shutting down to protect itself.
