No beep on startup

November 25, 2009 at 04:26:18
Specs: Windows XP
I have just bought a used MB Intel D845gerg2 with chip and have put it in my old case. On powering up I get no beep and the hard drive does not spin. However if I unplug the HD IDE lead then the HD spins from the power connector. Video/RAM/HD are all okay. Also the 3 lights flash on the keyboard okay. This is the best clue I have, but still unable to get to POST. Any ideas?

Thanks for your efforts. However I have found the problem. I needed to upgrade/downgrade the PSU as the MB required the 4 pin power connector too.
Yesiss I spent some hours trying the common denomination testing - to no avail. Luckily the company where | purchased from fathomed it out today after trying another MB. Straight thinking makes me think that as the HD would not spin then it required another power source (or something like that). Maybe this post will help someone else one day.
Thanks.

Additional info:
Apparantly the 4 pin molex 12v connector is required for the Pentium 4 processors. It is a shame I didn't have this info to hand before buying the MB or else I would have bought a PSU at the same time.
