NIC, Soundcard and on-board sound not detecte

Specs: Windows XP sp2, about 1700 AMD, 2gigs
PC was working okay, until it did some updates to XP. After that it only booted in safe mode to a line about MUP.SYS. So I used the XP disc to start the re-install process and chose repair, this brought it back to SP1, but the sound harware (on-board and a card) were not detected, nor the network card (a card, there is no on-board NIC). Next I installed SP2 from a CD ROM, but still the sound hardware and NIC are not detected. Have tried Add Hardware wizard but no joy. Is this something to do with MUP.SYS, if so can I install it manually perhaps? Any advice appreciaited.
PnP is enabled in the BIOS.

Probably you just need to re-install the driver for on-board sound from your PC manufacturer's website.

As for the add-on network card and sound card, re-install the drivers supplied with those cards or download from their respective manufacturer's websites.

Be aware that you can't have both on-board sound adapter and the add-on sound card enabled at same time. The on-board sound must be disabled in the BIOS Setup otherwise you will get a driver resource conflict and neither will work.
