new sata hard drive not detected on dell1525

I have had my Dell for 3 yrs. Ijust backed up my comp a few weeks ago.:) well just the other day somebody was foolin with it and when i went to get on all i got was the Windows sign..and the scrolling yellow bar..thats it. i got a new SATA hard drive for it. I installed the hard drive but my comp doesn't recognize it..HELP!!!. Do i need to do something to the hard drive before i install it..or to my computer?

You need to format it before you can use it. Did you get a disk with the hard drive? Do you have any Dell recovery disks? You will need some kind of recovery disks to restore the machine. If the recovery was on the d partition of the old hard drive, and you removed it, you're out of luck. If I remember correctly, Dell gives you disks. If you have them, you need to boot off the disk and follow the onscreen directions.
