New RAM problems

April 26, 2010 at 01:15:52
Specs: Windows XP, CPU/Ram: 1.599 GHz / 1023 MB
I reciently updated my RAM from 1G (512 x2) to 2G (1g x2) With the new RAM installed, my computer won't boot up, it gets to my home page then re boots again and again. I put 1 stick in (1G) and it went fine. I'm now running the 2x512 stick as per the original and while slow, if works. Is it possible that my computer won't run 2G of RAM?
Thankyou

It is possible the system will not run with the total amount of ram you tried. Without a motherboard make/model number to work with we cannot say for certain.
If you are unable to identify that and post back with the details then you can always visit www.crucial.com and let them scan your system. They will give you full details of compatible ram and configuration limits.

I've been unable to download a motherboard manual for that model. Crucial site says the board has two slots able to accept 1gb in each but with * saying not to exceed manufacturer's stated limits. You will need to read the manual to find out if there is an overriding limit. It may be that motherboard was manufactured specifically for Emachines so you may need to go there for the info you want.

Thanks again, I found that the board is also called a K8MM-V
I've read the manual and it says that it will support 2G of DDR 400 RAM which is what I'm trying to fit
I'm still puzzled
