new ram isssues

Specs: Windows XP, 256
i just installed new ram,a 512mb. after install i went to turn on my labtop and it would not start,nothing just a black screen, the 3 light at the top of the keyboard were on and thats it, so i switched the 512 and 128 and it started, but the 512 is apperently not working as slow as it is now, i was unplugged and the battery was out before i installed new ram, it is a brand new ram stick as well. what am i missing? thanks

this is the new ram that i installed, my two 128mb ram sticks both work fine, if i put the 512 in one slot it wont start in the other slot it doesnt show up, i am a little confused, as to what your post is trying to say.

I could be wrong but I believe she had two 128MB sticks, removed one of them & added the 512MB in it's place. That didn't work so she switched slots but still kept one 128MB + the 512MB.

yes jam you are correct as to what i did with the ram, and i did try with just the new 512 and still nothing. what do u think now? thanks
