Specs: Windows XP, Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz, 1 gb ram
New RAM justs Beeps and the computer has black screen.

My motherboard is "Dell Inc. 0WG864 (Microprocessor)". I tried putting it in different slots but it still beeps. I had to put back my original ram. I currently use PC2-4200 (266 MHz) DDR2, while the new ram is "Samsung 512MB DDR2 PC2-5300u 240-Pin DIMM." And I'm not an expert. Since my computer has 4 slots I want to put 2 more 512mb 5300u as I already have 2 512mb PC2-4200

We need to know the model/model number of your system. I'll take a stab at it & guess it's a Dell Dimension E520? If that's correct, the board can handle up to 8GB RAM (2GB per slot). If you have an 800MHz FSB CPU, the correct RAM is DDR2-533 (PC2-4200). You bought DDR2-667 (PC2-5300). That's generally not a problem as long as it's not ECC (server) RAM. You realize that it will automatically underclock to the same speed as the slower RAM, right? Did you try it by itself? Or one stick at a time? Are you 100% sure the RAM is fully seated in the slots & locked in place? Did you buy the RAM from a reputable or source or from eBay? Personally, I probably would have gotten 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-533 for a total of 3GB.

BTW, RAM doesn't beep, the motherboard beeps. And that beep code tells you what the problem is.

You're correct that it's a Dell Dimension E520. I bought the ram used on Amazon because it was cheap but I notice that the seller is reputable on eBay. I tried inserting it in different slots and removed the original ram too. I'm going to try one stick at a time very soon. It could be the last time i buy an hardware used. CPU is Intel Pentium D 820.

Putting one piece at a time worked. :)
