New motherboard does not detect hard drive

Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook

Specs: Windows Vista
I recently replaced the motherboard in my Dell Inspiron and it will not recognize the hard drive. When I the board, I also changed the hard drive connector. It will not show the drive in BIOS, when I try to install the OS (windows Vista), it asks for the driver, I install the driver from my original disk with no results.

Why did you replace the motherboard? Did you install an exact Dell replacement?

"I also changed the hard drive connector"

What does that mean? What did you change & why?

"It will not show the drive in BIOS"

Probably because you "changed the hard drive connector"

"when I try to install the OS (windows Vista), it asks for the driver"

If the hard drive isn't detected by the BIOS, the OS can't be installed. Also, no driver is needed when installing Vista. It sounds like you entire problem has to do with you changing "the hard drive connector". We need clarification as to what exactly that means.

The old board "died" no power, no warning, no nothing. I replaced a UK 437 with a UK 434, the 437 was not to be found anywhere I could find. The 434 was the only compatible one I could find (it has integrated video).
When I installed the 434, I kept getting an error at start up to " reseat the hard drive" , there is an attached part that the hard drives ( it has two) connect to. I took the connector from the old board and put it on the new one. Got the same result. after running diagnostics, I recieved the message "No hard drive found"
