New laptop screen with new cable not working

September 3, 2014 at 10:45:04
Specs: Windows 7
The laptop is a Sony Vaio vpceb390x. My screen broke several weeks ago, so I ordered a new screen. Exact type as the one I had.

When I installed it, the display was split horizontally and vertically, so I contacted the seller. They said it sounded like the cord was the problem, and it was stretched or something in the replacement process.

So I ordered a new lcd cable, carefully removed the old one and attached the new; then plugged in the screen, being careful not to add any pressure or strain to the cable. When I turned on the computer, no power seemed to go into the screen. The external monitor I have works fine, but as I am in college, the portability of my laptop is very important. Please reply with any ideas, diagnoses, or solutions asap.

Thank you very much,
Judah

It could still be either the cable or the screen. Not easy to tell without spares to substitute.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Put the old cable back on, do you at least get a picture (even if the original problem persists). If so, then the new cable is bad

If the old screen worked partially in any way, try swapping it back.
Contact the seller for possible replacement of the screen unless you can trace the issue with other damage (such as if the original screen was damaged through impact), pinched cable by the hinge,
Post back results.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

The first time I had the screen connected, I got the split-display. I disconnected it, but when I connected it again, there was no power. Same with the other cracked screen. Now, when I attach this new cord, I still get no power to either screen.

Unfortunately new items can be faulty. It seems that right now it has to be either the cable or its connections. This includes where the sockets themselves fit to the boards/screen. Either you try to get them to send another cable or maybe a voltmeter at each end would show you what is going wrong.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
