new hard drive not seen in bios

Specs: Windows 7
Help please ! I have a compaq mini net book which displayed a hard drive error. I replaced the hard drive reloaded OS and everything worked for a day or two then got a message hard drive error f1 to continue. I presumed that the hard drive was again faulty and tried another, same issue. I then tried a new FTP connector cable (the small orange cable) but I'm still getting the same error. When I try to load OS via USB cd it comes up "windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu" I have tried to reset CMOS, checked date and time but still cannot see hdd in BIOS. Can someone please help?

Hi, I have tried the hdd in an external USB case and is recognised in 3 diff sys. It is not recognised in the bios. Do you think I'm looking at a new motherboard?

Yeah I've checked it a few times, it's just when I tried to load windows the set up saw it but just couldn't load it but bios just can't see it, could it be the connection on the motherboard, I'll check connections again even try the cable the other way around

Have you, or is it possible anyone else has...
- dropped this netbook, or otherwise subjected it to a physical jolt ?
- spilled liquid on it ?

"I have a compaq mini net book ..."

Go here:
http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx
Scroll down a bit.
Look for the similar label on the outside of your computer.
Quote the specific model number - that's at the end of the first line.
Quote the Product number - that's on the third line.

".....I'm still getting the same error. "

Quote the exact wording of the error.

Obviously, if the bios can't see the hard drive, the OS disk's software can't see it either. When the hard drive is SATA, the OS disk software may not find a SATA drive, depending on bios settings for the SATA controller mode, you either have to change the bios setting or load SATA controller drivers for your mboard while loading the initial files from the Windows disk, but even then the hard drive must show up in the bios.
