Look for the new drive in Disk Management. You may need to format the drive.

I found that changing out the disc drive even tho in an external drive assembly had to be installed as an internal disc drive as if i had actually mounted into computer. Going thru disc management and initializing the disc I could then format disc and assign drive letter / now it shows under hard drives. Only problem now kind of seperate from computer and if the computer were to shut down, this disc is still running thru seperate power supply unless I shut down manually . Guess I could just leave off unless drive is actually needed as its only purpose is for my backup anyway.

Is the drive an eSATA type or USB?
