Need to backup data but can't see m

Hello!
I come to you almost in panic. I have a laptop and I
do almost all my work in there. However last week
while I was working my computer started showing some
graphic artifacts (green boxes) on the screen and
then it shut down, when I tried to turn the computer
on the screen had a series of lines with multiple
colors and I couldn't read anything. The HP tech
support says it's the graphic card... Everything else
is working fine I think, even without the screen
working I can hear the windows log in sound, so I
assume everything else is ok.

My problem is that I have some sensitive information
regarding my work on my drive c: (the one that
windows xp is installed on, I would like to know if
there is any way for me to backup that data or as a
last resort to erase it.

Thank you very much for your help!

Have you tried connecting an external monitor to the laptop?

On my laptop, you need to press F10 to toggle between external monitor & screen.

Put the hard drive into a external usb drive.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.
