March 13, 2013 at 13:57:14
Specs: Windows XP
Just got a usb memory card reader, and I inserted my 8gb microsd card (in the adapter of course) into the usb memory card reader, then tried to insert it in my laptop. The laptop pulls up the device, tries to auto play, then when i try to open the device, it says the disk in drive e is not formatted would you like to format now'' and i have tried clicking yes and it says unable to format then i tried clicking no and it does nothing. can't open at all. i'm not worried about retrieving files, i just need to put files onto the sd card. please help!

Does it read & show content on another device like a smartphone?
Honestly it sounds like the micosd card is gone.

There are different types of micro SD cards. Original standard and Micro SDHC
Some cardreaders cannot handle the HC type of card

I think Richard59 is right, the card reader is not compatible with your sd card.

the SD card reader reads SDHC which is the type of SD card i'm using so I'm sure they are compatible with each other.

Go to your disk manager and try to delete the partition on the card. If your card reader is working correctly, you should have a partition that is 8gb. Also, have you tried to format the card in your phone? And I'm assuming that this card works in your phone now and you just can't read it on your computer.
