Specs: Windows Vista
Ok, A month or so ago I purchased two new sticks of Memory. Currently, I as using an Emachine t6410. I got it a few years back as a birthday present. Ive been meaning to upgrade its memory for awhile and after reading the Emchanine website, I found that only a specific card would work in my system. Luckily, there was a website that would find it for me if I gave them my Model of computer. So, I typed in my info and it paired me up with two 1gb ddr pc3200. According to that website my computer will max out at 2gbs and If I run two of these cards I should be perfect. Bought them and tried to install them but ive run into errors my limited computer knowledge cant solve.
Running Stock, I have one stick of 512mb and one open slot. If I put just one stick of my new 1gb memory in, my computer wont even start up past what sounds like my fans starting. nothing ever comes up onto the screen. If I run both of my new 1gb cards, my computer starts but comes up with an error that it cant locate my system 32 files.
Ive checked, double checked, and re-checked to the point that I am positive that I have the correct cards.
Anything that someone can point out to help me out here?

Yes, your board has 2 memory slots & accepts up to 1GB PC3200 per slot. Here's confirmation from Crucial:

Install both sticks, then try running memtest86. If any errors are found, the RAM is probably defective. Hopefully you bought it from a reputable place & can return/exchange it if necessary?

Ok guys, I need to change what I said. When I run the single, Stock 512mb card, obviously, everything works as expected. When I run one single 1gb card alone, normally it wouldnt even boot past the error message. I just tried it 10 minutes ago and it actually loaded my desktop and all of my programs but before I could even click on an Icon i got slapped with the Blue screen of death. So, I shut it down and gave it a minute before trying two 1gb at once. Now, before, I said that it would tell me that it could not locate my sys32 files. That was incorrect. That was the usual response to ONE 1gb card. When I try to run both everything boots up fine until I get to the point where the Vista logo and loading bar should come up. I get nothing. Screen stays black and computer sounds like it goes to sleep. I still hear noise (mostly fan) but not the normal sounds of my computer actually running, if that makes any sense. So, with the correct info, does it sound like I got some bad memory? or is there a problem with Vista?

I appreciate all the help from you guys.

You don't have to log in. You go to the site I posted in response 1, download either the CD version or floppy version of memtest86, create the disk, then boot off it & let it run. There's no way any of us can tell you if your RAM is good or bad...it has to be tested.

I sure hope you didn't pay $45 per stick?

Newegg has 2GB (2 x 1GB) kits for the same price (after rebate):

Or you can get a single 1GB stick for $13 (after rebate):
