I think I'd look for some commercial test suite. I haven't used them in a while.
All of that is basically meaningless. An OS and a system have to work together. You can add in a service pack or driver change and the stupid thing will crash. Testing on the exact OS level is one of the better ways. Testing under real world tests like database transactions. Using network and file transfers are realistic.
