Need a better AGP graphics card

Compaq / Gb224aa-abg sr5065an
May 28, 2009 at 02:15:58
Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, 2.2 GHz / 3069 MB
My graphics card recently imploded, so I went and bought one I was assured was the same as the one I had -- but it's not. I now have a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400 SE and it's noticeably slower, especially when playing games. Any suggestions for something better??

What was the FULL model number of the old card?

The 8400SE is NOT a gaming card. Read this article:

EDIT: I just realized that you're asking about AGP. Tom's Hardware quit reviewing AGP cards months ago. But I just looked up the motherboard specs for the Compaq Presario SR5065AN & your board doesn't even have an AGP slot...it has a PCI-e x16 slot. Are you asking about a different system?

Thanks guys but I've just discovered that this IS a PCI card -- the IT guy at work told me the old one was AGP *sigh*
So now I just need to get a much better PCI! lol

Oh and thanks for the link jam, looks like the Radeon HD 4770 might be the go.
I appreciate the help.

For your system I recommend the HD4670. The reason I chose that one is because it doesn't require the additional power connection, plus it's cheap. A more powerful card *may* force you to upgrade the power supply.
