My WD Passport is now showing up as Local Drive

December 11, 2016 at 06:45:20
Specs: Windows 7
Today my Passport started showing up as a local drive and I can't access the files. The Passport is working properly, I pulled it up in device manager and it is showing as working properly. Then when I unplug the device it asks me if I want to format the drive and then says can't be formatted. I'm so confused. Please help.

Do you keep the HDD plugged into the USB port all the time? Do you leave your computer on all the time or do you power-up/shut-down one or more times a day? If you format it, you will lose ALL your files, so do NOT attempt to format! The 1st thing you should do is check disk management & see what's listed for the Passport. Click the Start button & put disk management in the Search box. If there is more than one result, click on "Create & format hard disk partitions"

Show where are you seeing the local drive message? In Computer?
