My system restarts

September 13, 2010 at 01:56:09
Specs: Windows XP, AMD K-6II 450 MHz with 384 MB RAM
When I put a cd in the cdrom drive the computer restart, and it will restart non stop until I remove the cd from the cd-rom drive. Once the cd is out windows restart.

I need help,I can't figure out the reason why it is doing that. I checked my power source and ups. And hey ! It did not make any problem when i took my system to a system mechanic. but when I brought back to my home it was all the same. Please Help and don't tell me to throw out my system.

Swap it with another cdrom and see if you still have the problem.

Hi,

I had changed 4-5 CD-ROMs so that they may be faulty. I formatted my system with same cd-rom at the mechanic's officeand installed XP, where my system with CD-ROM worked very fine. But when I brought back at my home it was all the same. System without CD in the tray works fine without any problem but whenever inserted its all the same...........

So it worked fine at the shop and didn't restart when you inserted a cd? And you've tried more than one cdrom?

Maybe it's a heat problem. Did the shop have the cover off the computer? If so, it'd be cooler inside the case with the cover off.

Or static electricity can restart a computer. Are these restarts associated with you touching the case and getting a static shock?

If you haven't already done so, replace the cdrom's data cable.

Hi Daveincaps,

Thanks,
But no, it is not the heating problem because I used my system case opened and also not the static electricity problem. But it seems to be some electrical/earthing problem because I checked my UPS and it supplies it properly. I do not understand the problem because everything works fine without CD-ROM when the cd drive starts reading the cd it my system restarts abruptly and until I remove the cd from drive it doesn't allow to start.
Hope any Hardware engineer may be of my help.
