My QSI SBW242 drive freeze when playing a DVD

March 2, 2011 at 11:37:30
Specs: Windows XP, 2.3Ghz/512Mb
I have a Dell inspiron 1100 laptop , 2.3 Ghz with 512 Mb of RAM and 64 Mb of video memory , with a QSI SBW242 DVD/CD drive , i used to play DVD movies on it without any problems , suddenly , after i formatted and re-installed Windows XP Professional SP2 , the DVD movies started to freeze after playing 30 to 45 mins without problems , whatever player i used , or codec to render the video and audio , though the DVD was playing fine on any other DVD drive .. so it is probably from my QSI optical drive , it is reading CDs and DVDs correctly , my only problem is that it freezes when playing DVD movies , i also noticed that the same movie will always freeze at the exact same time where it froze earlier , even if i play it again after few days..always at the same time , either if i started the movie from the beganing , or if i pressed "go to " and played few secounds before that area or time on the disc , i dont think its an overheating problem or something , and its not the drivers , everything is up to date , from motherboard to the optical drive .... i also tried one of those cleaning CDs...no success...
so im wondering what could be the problem , and how to possibly fix it ...
any help would be greatly appreciated...
thanks

Re: " i also noticed that the same movie will always freeze at the exact same time where it froze earlier" ----- there's your answer - bad media (bad DVD). If it fails, freezes, stops or chokes at the same spot on the DVD disk, then your media is bad.

I hope you put XP SP3 on!

Just another stupid saying...
