Is this an old DOS application? The print spooler is not started until the stream is closed, the buffer is filled, or a time out has occurred. There is a setting somewhere in the printer or spooler setup that sets the timeout.

I have set it to start printing immediately. I have the problem on the spooling setting and also on the 'Print directly to the printer' setting. I don't think it is an old DOS application. I'm sorry I don't know what is meant by the stream is closed and the buffer is filled.

The stream is closed when the application has finished sending data to the printer, This can be tested by closing and exiting the application. Buffer filling by printing several pages in rapid succession, Only the last page is delayed. Depending upon the printer memory this could take many pages.

Does this happen with all print jobs? Some printers may require an end of job marker. Depending on the environment some Postscript jobs do.
