My PC wont BOOT up.

Maxtor Diamondmax 16 80gb hard drive

Specs: Windows XP, Athlon 7950 2gb ddr2
My PC wont boot. It gets stuck after BIOS POST when selecting BOOT device. My primary is CD-ROM and Secondary is HDD (Maxtor) ATA. Tried switching priorities, it didn't help. It just hangs there forever. Is my HDD a goner?

does your HDD have a boot partition?

Yes it does. Windows was installed and it was working before, until PC restarted in middle of work, since then it wont BOOT past BIOS POST. Also, I forgot to mention that HDD is around 5 years old.

HDD's don't have a limited life as such, it's how you use it and in what enviroment.

enter BIOS - can you see the drive there?

best thing is to check the drive outside your PC, connect the HDD to another computer as secondary drive, if that works then it means you need to seek solution in your config. if the drive does not work on another PC - it's a "goner"
