my mouse won't work.

Specs: Windows XP
Hi I am new here so hope I explain my problem ok .I have been giving a computer when I turned it on a message saying new hardware found I am hoping this is for the mouse as it does not work ,now my problem is I cannot click on the message to open , how can I access this ,I read some were if I click on the windows icon on the key board I could work through that but when I do this nothing happens. please I need help.

What mouse? PS/2? USB? Laptop Touchpad? If PS/2 or USB, what kind of mouse? Laser? Optical?

Hi . it is a 0ptical usb mouse, When I turn on the computer the windows screen appears then a message saying new hardware found ,I assume this is for the mouse ,but I can't move the mouse ,I have read up on how to start the computer by the key board but this hasn't worked either ,as I'm not an expert on computers I really don't know what to do.

Would you mind telling us who made the mouse? Is it Microsoft, Logitech or what? Is the mouse new? Did it come with its own software?

hi , it is a logitech mouse .no it's not new but works on my other computer, the disc for it has been misplaced . I also have a Trust optical mini mouse with the disc ,I tried down loading this but can't get it open with out a mouse.
