Can you test the monitor on another working computer?

Can you test the computer with another monitor attached?

What kind of computer is this" presumably a desktop or tower system? What make and model - and operating system does it have?

No. This is the only computer and monitor I have.
I didn't know the model but it has a logo written AVF.

The monitor is Samsung SyncMaster S22B150.
The os is win8.

When you first turn it on do you see anything at all--maybe the logo or posting screen? If so try booting to safe mode and lower the screen resolution.

If it's giving a normal beep then the PC is probably OK and it's the monitor, monitor cable or maybe the video card--if you have an add-on card and your video isn't on-board. If you have added a video card try the on-board port as well.

If it's beeping differently the number and type of beeps will give a clue to the problem. You need to check the beep codes for your system or motherboard.

I sold a monitor to someone a few years ago. He drove it halfway across the state to hook up to someone's computer but the monitor showed no image. He brought it back and said it was no good. I hooked it up and adjusted the brightness and it worked just fine. Make sure it's not something embarrassingly simple like that.

If you still see nothing on the screen then it's likely the monitor or cable. There's really nothing else to do but try the monitor on another computer or try a different monitor on yours.
