my monitor blanks out after a second

July 13, 2011 at 04:57:57
Specs: Windows XP sp3, Athlon 3.2 64bit
monitor blanks out after a second but the screen is still active, its like a black filter coming over the display. If i turn it off and back on it displays for a second then blacks out again. I bought a new graphics card thinking that was the prob but it replicates the same fault with the new card. In display settings it is showing as secondary monitor(default) but I cannot select it as the primary( Apply is greyed out/ not selectable) I'm stumped???

Assuming this is a desktop or tower PC since you swapped out the graphics card. Post exact model #'s of your:

- OS
- PC
- LCD monitors
- Graphics card
- etc....

...w/o detailed information we can only guess.

Did you try another monitor?

MOOOOooove! OH and you're welcome!

Hi, yeah it's a self build desktop, ASUS K8V se deluxe board, 2 gig ram, 3.2 Athlon 64bit CPU, running XP pro SP3, viewsonic VX910 19" lcd, sapphire x1950 pro 512mb Graphics, I have tried the monitor on my laptop now( didn't have a D-Sub earlier) The monitor replicates the same fault on the laptop so......guess it's shot and time for a new monitor.....Bummer!
