Solved My laptop takes forever to switch on

Specs: Windows Vista
when i try switching on my laptop it tell me
"checking file system on C:
This type of file system is NTFS.
one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.You may cancel the disk check.But it is strongly recommended that you continue.
windows will now check the disk."
But i am not able to cancel this and it takes hours.So far i've never even had the patience to see it through as its always taken well over 2 hours. What could it be or could i do. Please help.

You must allow the the disk check to run as there may be file system errors on the disk, in which case the disk check will rectify them. Once you've allowed it to run, your laptop should start normally.

The disk check runs automatically if you don't shut Windows down properly (eg a sudden loss of power) so make sure you always shut Windows down in the proper manner, either by using the Windows shutdown menu or by pressing the laptop's power button for a second.
