My laptop doesn´t want to work

April 23, 2009 at 13:18:33
Specs: Windows Vista
When i switch on my laptop, it works fine, i can get to the user screen, select the user, type the password and the user account does appear but after this, the computer fails to work for more than 30 seconds if i so dare to even touch the mouse. The computer freezes with the little loading sphere constantly circling. I try task manager but a black screen comes up and a little window appears which says 'Failure to open security functions'. I've tried leaving the laptop running for several hours but the loading sphere circles constantly. I keep on trying disk check, it keeps on fixing corrupted data but still the problem persists. I can´t even go on the internet because the laptop won´t stay on long enough to allow me to do anything. I have been having this problem for 3 weeks now and am desperate for any help. I dont think it's a virus, i have a feeling it could be the computewrs memory malfunctioning. I have genuine Windows Vista and nothing is downloaded illegally. What could be the problem?

If chkdsk keeps fixing corrupted data on the hard drive, I would look into the hard drive as being the problem. Alot of BIOSes today have a hard drive test facility built-in the BIOS. Immediately after you turn the computer on, tap DEL/Delete repeatedly until you see an on-screen menu to appear. Since all BIOSes are different, it's hard to say whereat in your BIOS the test would be, you'd have to navigate around to find it.
