My Iomega external hard drive will not open

November 30, 2013 at 05:33:47
Specs: Windows 64
I have a silver Iomega eGo external hard drive (1Tb). I recently upgraded my laptop running on Windows 8.1. File explorer recognizes the Iomega drive but when I try to open the encryption setup programme, all I get is the encryption application settings pop up. It does not provide me with the ability to input the password to access the contents of the hard drive.

That's one of the drawbacks of using encryption software. It may not be compatible with the Windows version you've upgraded to. Even worse is if the manufacturer doesn't update the software to run on Windows 8, 'cos then you're really in the sh*t.

I wouldn't use proprietary encryption software under any circumstances.

If you can post the name of the encryption software I'll try to check if there's a Windows 8-compatible version you can download.

I usually backup manually - save whatever of my own stuff is important. That avoids all the encryption nonsense. You can do this by removing all the software on the external. BUT don't do that right now or you will loose everything.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks for the feedback. The name of the programme is IomegaEncryptionSetup.exe. Is that what is meant by the name of the software?
