Clicking sounds from a hard disk is usually fatal. It is the sound of the head seek mechanism trying hard to position itself and constantly failing.

I hope you have backups of any important data because that hard disk is dead.

Clicking sound from hard drive indicates bad hdd or not enough power. Use the rear USB ports and if u have many usb devices connected try to remove them when connecting external hdd.
Try it in another system if it fails. Do u have Y shape usb cable?

You know the real meaning of peace only if you have been through the war.
