(you must always do this, regardless of the removal policy setting).
If you unplugged it in the proper manner, well good, but the "clicking" noise you refer to is not a good sign with any hard drive. You should test it with Seagate SeaTools for Windows (since Accomdata don't have any testing software for hard drives). SeaTools can be used to test any brand. If the Windows version can't detect the drive, use the DOS version instead (download is on same page as Windows version).
