Can you access the bios settings?

Try this. Can't hurt. Remove ac and press the power button a few times. Then replace the ac plug and try again.

I have had computer cmos battery low alerts and have read both sides of different posts ...some say it doesn't affect booting and some say yes it does... but I am stuck what to look for now and so many directions to try.

If you can access bios (setup) that is partly a good sign.

Might look at bios for any memory tests or power on test. Maybe some quiet setting that you can uncheck to see more of what might be happening.

I might try using safe mode or fail safe settings. There usually is a bios menu choice to put all the settings to some basic settings.

Other than that, I'd try to boot to some bootable cd just to see if it could boot off a disk.

I have never seen a computer stop because of the low cmos battery but I guess it could happen.
