Specs: Windows XP, AMD Athlon XP 2400+
I have a problem with my AMD Athlon XP 2400+ overheating. its temperature is about 80-90 degrees celsium (as said by the SpeedFan) what should i do? My computer crahses at least 3 times a day because of that. I tried to lower the voltage but i cant find where to. i searched the whole bios. i'm solving the problem by putting iceplates by the computer to cool it.

Lowering the voltage is probably not going to help, and putting iceplates by the computer is not the solution. When was the last time you blew dust out of the case and from the cpu fan ? Use a can of compressed air to blow some dust out. You may also have to remove the heatsink & fan, clean off the old thermal paste, and reapply new thermal paste.

Have you made any changes within the tower? If not, it's either a dust buildup issue as stated by kx5m2g or it could be that your CPU cooling fan failed. And if it failed, it *may* be because of a dust buildup issue...lol. Unplug the power cord, open the case & have a look. Do NOT use a vacuum...blow the dust out as was suggested.

Thank you very much for the advice. My cpu temperature is now leveled around 45 degrees celsium. I will buy new thermal paste in time but at the moment i'm broke. Thank you.

Vacuum cleaners generate static electricity and their use is not recommended for electronics cleaning.

45°C is fine for a 2400+; keep it clean and don't worry about replacing the thermal paste right now.

What does speedfan say your system temp is?

45°C at the moment... it sometimes rises to 48 but not for long. Thank you.
