My computer show black screen on boot

April 8, 2011 at 21:53:15
Specs: Windows Vista, 768
ok so my computer was doing fine till about 2 days ago. I had left my computer idling for like 3 hours one day and then came back and it was completely frozen. I shut it off and then it booted up again but at the windows logo screen it froze. I shut it off again and now i just get a black screen when i boot it. Some times if im lucky i can just log in but do nothing without it freezing

Sounds like it may be overheating, you can blow out the air vent with compressed air (powered-off), if that seems to be venting fine and the fan is working, you would probably need to have tech look at it. It could be a failing hard drive. Seatools by seagate will test your hard disk if it does not freeze. See if you can test the ram memory as well, vista has a built tester. F8 on startup under advanced options I believe.

u mentioned a click sound in ur hard drive. some hard drives click when data is being read. was ur hard drive clicking before ur black screen happened or this is a new sound ?
to make sure its not overheating clean all the fans from dust.
