My computer Keeps freezing when i set my ram to 1600mhz

January 2, 2016 at 13:42:56
Specs: Windows 7
I just recently bought a 16gb Gskill Ripjaws 1600mhz ram for the the holidays. When i try to enable xmp mode to get the 1600mhz my computer randomly freezes. I already have the latest BIOS for my mother board. I also tryed to manually input the setting and it still didnt work. Should i go above the 1.5 recommended voltage on the ram?
PS:mobo X79A-GD45 Plus CPU 4930k PSU Corsair 1000 watts

I believe you need to set it to 1.65 v

Test your RAM with memtest86 or memtest86+. If any errors are found, return it or request an RMA.

Is the model of RAM in the support list:
http://www.msi.com/product/motherbo...

Also the memory voltage is indicated in this list

As stated, it is probably the memory voltage that needs resetting, though I thought that the XMP settings took this into account. I generally look for memory with the lower default voltage and the lower latency as these are generally better memory made to run on those settings rather than factory overclocked memory with higher base settings originally spec'd to run at lower settings.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I did a quick search at Newegg & all the G.Skill 16GB DDR3-1600 kits have the RAM voltage listed as either 1.35v or 1.5v. None are 1.65v.
