my computer is stuck at start up

March 29, 2009 at 15:22:46
Specs: Windows Vista
Today I did a system reinstall using the disk that came with my computer. When I was done, it told me to restart my computer. When I did, it went into checking disk for consistency, I skipped that and now it is stuck where it says Please wait while windows prepares to start
What do i do now?

My suggestion would be to do the install again, but this time do not interrupt it when it's "checking disk for consistency".

I did that too... I let it check for disk consistency and it got stuck at "19% complete (1 of 3)" for hours so I shut it down. When I try to reboot through safe mode it gets stuck as well in one of those black screens and says I'm missing system32 something something file. I can't do anything!!! help.

Check your memory:
Memory test
http://memtest.org/
There is a version to create a bootable floppy diskette and/or an ISO for creating a CD.

And run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics on your hard drive.
