Did this suddenly stop working or did it work with some previous headphones?

Go to Control Panel > Sounds and look around Properties. All sound systems are different but sometimes there are settings that enable/disable jacks.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

The system typically detects audio components by default via the 3.5mm phone jacks. USB audio components probably need drivers to be detected and work. Some USB jacks are not directly connected through the chipset and may behave differently, they may be run through an internal hub or a separate USB controller on the motherboard or even an expansion card. This was typical of many early systems including USB3.0 when it first came out. If you have both USB2 and USB3 front ports, try a USB2 port. USB2 ports will be black on the inside and USB3 ports will be blue inside in these systems.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
