Specs: Windows Vista
i have an acer aspire m5630 and it only gives me the choice to eather plug in the vido card or my cd rom drive HELP ME!!!

You need to explain a little more of what you are trying to do.

A video card uses and PCI/EGP/PCI-E expansion slot. A CD ROM uses as PATA/SATA disk interface. The are two completely different things and there is no way one should preclude the other.

They even use different power connectors so that can't be the problem.

You may have a power supply limitation. That is why they don't put a lot of those power connectors in OEM units. They really are not designed to upgrade a whole lot. The video card may tax your power supply to the point of failure.
Your power supply specs are:
Power Supply Industry Standard 250 or 300 Watt (varies by model)
You really need a larger power supply to upgrade your video card. What does the video card manufacturer recommend for the minimum power supply rating?
