Try using VLC Media Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/downloa...
It does not require any extra drivers or addons

It probably says 'drive not ready' meaning the DVD disk isn't being accessed.

Even though it's seeing CD's OK the DVD function may be bad. Are you having the same problem with all your DVD's?

Is it giving that message when you try to open it from 'my computer' or when you try to play a movie?

Did anything happen (hardware or software changes) between the last time it worked OK and the first time it didn't?

Ubuntu Cheeta, Ubuntu !

Oh so My Computer cannot read the disc
I thought you couldn't "play the media file"

Is it a DVD Drive? Have you played DVDs in it before?
It's possible that the DVD Drive (or discs) are faulty
Try another DVD Drive, or another disc

happens when i try to play it from nero and anything else

Can you open the disc from My Computer?
It sounds as though the DVD reading on your Drive is just not working

You are best to purchase a new DVD Drive

Note: a CD Drive cannot read DVDs

You can confirm your CD Drive capabilities by running this program: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

Note: You do not need to pay for this program, as it comes with a "14-day trial"
I'd say you just need about 5mins to check it and that's all
