Specs: Windows XP
they will both play discs but wont recognise blank discs

You removed the ASPI layer drivers in the process. That is quite common with WinXP.

You can either perform a system restore to a date prior to this issue or you can try removing the upper and lower filters. Removing the filters works much of the time but I am not a fan of that process because MS must have put those filters there for a reason.

A third option may also work. Run scannow SFC. Look at the link below to learn how.

Try a different brand of blank discs, preferrably high-quality like Sony.

i used to use nero,i removed that and am now trying easy burner.the problems started after removing nero.

Does it say what to do? You may need to provide a WinXP CD to replace the missing file/s.

Reread the link. The solution should be spelled out there. You need to find out which files are missing. The link explains how to do that.
