My asus laptop switches off if something hits the case

Specs: Windows 7
When something hits the case of my laptop e.g. me putting my earphones down and it touches the edge of the pc, it switches off completely - goes black like the power has been turned off. Does anybody have an answer?

So you are saying that the case only needs to be touched,
it doesn't need to be bumped? If so, it means either that
there is an electrical short somewhere inside, or that you
are building up a large static charge, and the laptop is not
well insulated against it.

If being bumped is what shuts it off, not a touch, then most
likely an electrical connection is loose. Maybe a connection
to the battery. Try taking the battery out and checking and
cleaning the contacts.

Most likely a poor connection, probably requiring a little bit of dismantling to fix. Where it is most sensitive to movement is a clue to where the trouble lies. Sometimes very light tapping (eg with a pencil) will help you find where it is.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
