My ACER laptop has broken screen hinges Is it repairable?

November 10, 2013 at 14:08:04
Specs: Windows 7
Computer is at a repair shop. They can't seem to find parts. The screen was stepped on. The twist caused the screen hinges to crack. Wiring so far is operational in that programs will operate on the computer screen. However the computer shop has told me that it will eventually fail because of broken wires through the screen hinge, They have had the unit over a month trying to find replacement hinges/screen shell but had had no luck in finding then. I guess the real question is- is this a repairable area or should I just consider buying a new computer which will be a gift for my grandson.

What is the model of the laptop?

Does the computer still work?

The cost to repair may exceed the value, even if parts can be found.

As per OtH... Make "and" model is useful to know... Often parts can be found out there - via trawl/ search with google, yahoo etc.

But if not readily available, and/ or cost to acquire and complete repairs is high... Then a new laptop may be better option...

Ignoring the touch screen hype surrounding many laptops currently being promoted (pushed) there are laptops about for around £400 or so; mostly win-8, but occasionally even win-7.

If you go for a new one, do NOT abandon this damaged one. Files on it you may wish to keep can easily be copied and transferred to new laptop.

Also, if the damaged one has a VGA out port (allows an external monitor connection) you could likely still use it that way - as a desktop/not so portable...?

Whereabouts are you located?

try calling acer with model number and ask them if you could order the parts and how they would be or plugg into a another monitor and use it that way and always its a good idea to keep it to transfer file on to the new laptop if you by one
you could ask the acer how much they would charge to fix it also other site such as ebay ans amazon have used parts you might check them out

Check ebay. It'd be worthwhile buying a non-working one as long as the hinges on it were OK. I doubt the shop has checked there.
