"I completely wiped it out and it still happens."
Does this mean you completely reloaded Windows? If not then try a system restore from Safe Mode. If this still happens beyond a complete reload of windows then you are definitely looking at a hardware problem.
Test memory with Memtest86.
Test hard drive with hard drive utility downloaded from your hard drive mfg's utility (open case and look at brand).
Check internal temperatures either in BIOS or in safe mode using Speedfan or similar program to see if you are simply overheating.
(check memory or temp first, but do memory test before hard drive test since a bad memory stick can give you a false read or freeze on HD test)
Post back results.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

You may try to restore your PC back to defaults. The process of restoring PC to defaults is simple, just hold the [alt] key and press the F10 key right when you turn the PC on to start the recovery program. Check out all the new software that you have installed on your computer, if the software are not genuine and authenticated, remove them, because they may be the cause of problem. Another way is, get in the BIOS and turn of the option of Autostart at system failure.
