Solved My 2070 Super is under performing what do i do?

May 13, 2020 at 09:16:59
Specs: Windows 10, I7-9700k
Yesterday I upgraded my GPU from 1070Ti to 2070 super and at first everything was fine. But a couple of hours later, it started dropping clock speeds to 300MHz randomly. I checked and reinstalled my drivers, and took out the graphics card and re-plugged it back in, to make sure it wasn't just installed incorrectly. whenever i run games like call of duty modern warfare or valorant my frames are worse than my 1070 Ti.

My fans arent spinning but not sure if that's just the passive cooling that is built into the card to reduce noise.

My PSU is a 750W I'm pretty sure so i doubt its insufficient power either.

"My PSU is a 750W I'm pretty sure so i doubt its insufficient power either"

Wattage ratings can be deceiving. Please post the make/model of your PSU, amperage specs too if you know them.

The RTX 2070 Super is rated at 215W, the GTX 1070Ti is rated at 180W. Not a huge difference but possibly enough to cause problems if the PSU is weak. 2070 requires 6-pin + 8-pin; 1070Ti only requires 8-pin.

"Where do I find the amperage specs etc?"

On the label on the side of the PSU. Or if you know the make/model, you can find them on the manufacturer's website. The label would be best.

With the DDU and driver reinstall along with some MSI Afterburner tweaks, my GPU is working perfectly.

Thanks for your help!
