What makes a good multitasking computer. Is it a Core 2 Duo/Core Quad cpu? Is it DDR2 memory? The chipset or a combination of all of these components?. All opinions are respected and appreciated.

It's the Operating system that determines if a computer is good at multitasking, not the hardware. Of course the hardware effects how well it can do it but multi-tasking is primary an Operating System function.

You could load up core 2 duo PC will MS-DOS and it would be a single tasking system. With windows 3.1 it would be a co-operative multitasking system and with Windows 95 onward it would be a pre-preemptive multitasking system.

Thanks for the reply. Makes complete sense. I have just ordered a Core 2 Duo e7400 system with 4gig of ram and 512mb video card with Vista SP1 installed. I think this will do fine with what I want to accomplish. Any other opinions?

So a 1.8Mhz P4 with !Gb of memory would be inadequate for multi-tasking. Rubbish!

P2s and 3s were multi-tasking with Windows 95.

Well they are good but it's kind big problem with hard ware updating. Those models were really good but they kinda a left out on this age. No offense with on how much they can do. I'm actually using a P2 right now. But now I'm really have trouble on finding computer parts for it.
